In a clear sign that the European debt crisis remains a preoccupation for Canadians, the 2,700 tickets to the semiannual Munk Debate, to be held in Toronto on Friday, May 25th, sold out in under 48 hours.
This must see Munk Debate will convene four big European thinkers to tackle the motion: be it resolved, the European experiment has failed.

With Spain, the fourth largest economy in Europe, teetering on verge of a massive Eurozone and IMF bailout, the Aurea Foundation announced today the resolution and presenters for the ninth semiannual Munk Debate, to be held in Toronto on Friday, May 25th.
To encourage far-ranging discussion of an issue of global significance, the ninth semi-annual Munk Debate will table the motion: be it resolved, the European experiment has failed.

Remember the Krugman vs Summers debate last year? That was fun, in its own way. But this year's Munk Debate looks set to be simply depressing. The invitation has the details: the motion is "be it resolved that the European experiment has failed". And I'm reasonably confident that the "pro" side — Niall Ferguson and Josef Joffe — is going to win.
